This presentation shared the experience our campus had with Desire2Learn, our online learning environment. It was presented in the New Wave of Course Management Systems Workshop at the Common Solutions Group (CSG) September 2013 meeting. The CSG brings together, "a small set of research universities [that] participate regularly in meetings and project work" toward adopting common solutions across all member campuses. Practical Approaches for Twitter in Professional Development – Presentation at the Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology Conference (August 2013)

During this presentation my colleague Mark Gammon and I shared the results of our research study funded by the Professional and Organizational Development Network. Our study focused on understanding educators' use of Twitter for their professional development. We were interested in exploring the professional development value that Twitter creates for people; identifying limitations and trade offs in using Twitter for professional development; and investigating how its professional development value might help inform and shape Twitter's use in faculty development. Information about our study is available at

My colleague Viktoriya Olyniyk and I presented at the annual Desire2Learn user conference with the goal of providing other D2L users with information related to how they might prepare for the upgrade, as well as resources they can use during their own upgrade. We shared the successes, insights and challenges experienced during the upgrade to LE 10.1. We described the data we used to prepare for the upgrade, our data analysis, and how we identified, organized and prioritized upgrade tasks. We also shared how we supported our users throughout the transition. Information about our presentation is available at
